New Facebook Changes

Posted by Shaun Nestor on 12 Mar 2009 / 0 Comment

Facebook announced that it is changing its page layouts and will begin rolling them out this week. The last time Facebook changed its layout, public outcry – including many Facebook groups petitioning for the return old layout – prompted some change at FB. I’m glad to see that they have learned this time around and made the announcement early. Additionally, they have released screen shots of the new layout and outlined changed that users can expect.

Facebook recently posted this on their blog:

We think you’ll find that the new home page makes it even easier for you to create content and receive real-time updates from the people and connections you have on Facebook. It also gives you even more control over who and what you see in your stream by offering new filters.

Here is a quick overview of changes:

  • Looks like Twitter
  • More “Friend” Focused – meaning you can see what your friends are doing
  • ‘Real-time’ updating. However, FB will not “push” information to your computer, you must refresh the screen to see the new updates
  • New filters allow you to see exactly what you care about and weed out stories you don’t want
  • “Publisher” feature is an easy-to-use text box to update your status, comment on events, and so on
  • Highlights section shows a more long-term overview – opposed to the real-time stream. The highlights section shows picture updates, events, and other meaningful changes made by your friends

Do you have the new Facebook profile layout? What are your thoughts about it?
