LinkedIn launches Profile Organizer – but is that enough?

Posted by Shaun Nestor on 01 Oct 2009 / 0 Comment

LinkedIn took a step into Salesforce’s turf today with its launch of Profile Organizer, a new CRM-like tool that allows you to save profiles, organize contacts into folders, and add your personal notes on each.

linkedinLinkedIn, the business social networking site, is trying to add more features and not just be a way to connect with your business contacts. For a lot of recruiters, salespeople, and other professionals, it’s a great business database for finding potential leads and new employees. Traditionally, people and information you find would be organized with a customer relationship management (CRM) tool like Salesforce.

While LinkedIn is closing the gap, I maintain that their usability and user interface needs a drastic overhaul. In a time where simplicty rules and “less is more”, LinkedIn remains difficult to navigate and counter-intuitive.

I am Facebook for about 12 hours a day – I love (most of) their interface, usability, and features. When I click over to LinkedIn, it feels like I’m speaking a second language; one I am not fluent in. I have to really think-out how to do what I want to do and hunt out the appropriate way to get there.

Thoughts? How often do you use LinkedIn? Will you choose it over an established CRM link Salesforce? Is Facebook a threat to LinkedIn?
